At minimum eight people were found deceased Friday in four locations in rural Ohio, authorities said.

Seven of them, including two children, were slain in “execution-style killings” at three homes along a rural road, but number arrests were made and it’s unclear whether the killer or killers were among the dead, authorities said Friday.

Details on the death of the eighth person weren’t immediately available, but the body was found in a fourth location, said Jill Del Greco, spokeswoman with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Attorney Common Mike DeWine planned to allow an upgrade in Pike County later Friday afternoon, she said.

DeWine and Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader had said earlier that seven victims were believed to be members of the same family. All were shot to death, they said.

While authorities haven't identified the victims, “neighbors and relatives declare the area closed off by police was occupied by a large family split among three different trailers,” the .

"It was a mother, her former husband, their grown children and some grandchildren, too. They all used to attend our church," Phil Fulton, pastor of the nearby Union Hill Community Church, told the Post. He said the mother worked at a nursing residence and had just bought a mobile residence close the existing trailers occupied by her ex-husband and her son, according to the Post.

There isn't an active shooter and number arrests have been made, DeWine and Reader said. Authorities are trying to define a motive, identify the deceased and define if the killer or killers are among the deceased individuals or on the loose.

A dozen Bureau of Criminal Investigation agents were called Friday morning to Pike County, an economically struggling area in the Appalachian region some eighty miles E of Cincinnati.

TV reports from the scene said a staging area has been set up with ambulances and fire personnel.

Gov. John Kasich, campaigning in PA for his Republican presidential bid, said his office was monitoring the situation in Pike County.

“Reports we're receiving from Peebles are tragic beyond comprehension,” Kasich wrote on his Twitter account.

The FBI in Cincinnati also said it was closely monitoring the situation and has offered assistance to the Pike County sheriff’s office if needed.

Peebles High School imposed a precautionary lockout Friday morning after authorities notified the superintendent of shootings that'd occurred a few miles away, according to Regina Bennington, secretary to the superintendent for the Adams County OH Valley Schools district.

High school executive said the school was back to normal operations later Friday morning.

Piketon is the site of a Freezing War-era uranium plant that was closed in two thousand-first and is still being cleaned up.
