A proposed transfer involves jailed Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko being handed over in exchange for two Russian soldiers.

Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, who's serving a 22-year jail sentence in Russia, could be freed below a prisoner swap deal negotiated by the two countries&#thirty-nine; presidents.

Ukraine'south President Petro Poroshenko says he spoke with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday about a framework for a deal.

"Yesterday I initiated a conversation with Putin and based on preliminary preparations it seems to me we've managed to consent on a certain algorithm to free Nadezhda," Mr Poroshenko told journalists on Tuesday.

The conversation between the pair came after two Russian servicemen were sentenced in Ukraine for preparing "an act of terror".

Mister Poroshenko said the sentencing of the Russian soldiers "opens certain possibilities of initiating a swap".

"But I strongly urge number speculation about a timeframe for (Ms Savchenko's) return or future steps."

Ms Savchenko was captured by pro-Russian forces in eastern Ukraine and transferred to Russia, where she was found guilty of being involved in killing two Russian TV reporters during the Crimean peninsula conflict in March 2014.

She denies any involvement.

Latest week, Mister Putin said he'd been in touch with Ukraine'south leaders regarding Ms Savchenko'south case, but added: "It'south better not to obtain ahead of ourselves."
