Crane Collapse in China Kills At Least twelve

Twelve people have died and two others are lost after a crane collapsed and smashed into a work shed on a building site in southern China.

Authorities said the accident happened early on Wednesday morning in Dongguan, an industrial area in Guangdong Province.

More than two hundred firefighters are searching for those who are still buried in the rubble, which covers an area of about two hundred square metres.

Fourteen people rescued from the site stay in hospital.

The collapsed building appears to have been used as a dormitory for those working on the site.

An initial investigation suggests the crane was blown over by powerful winds during a thunder storm.
