MAINZ, Germany — The annual common meeting of Mercedes-Benz'south parent company was supposed to celebrate the highest dividend in the luxury-car manufacturer'south history being dished out to shareholders.

But Wednesday'south event in Berlin was will be remembered for another reason: police were called when two shareholders got into a heated argument — over sausages.

Daimler, which owns Mercedes-Benz and several other auto brands, provided some 12.500 sausages for the 5.500 attendees at the meeting.

But this was clearly not sufficient to sate one man'south voracious appetite.

The shareholder began packing far several sausages, apparently to get home, at which point a woman confronted him and the two got into a war of words, Daimler spokeswoman Silke Walters told NBC News.

Police were called to peaceful the situation and the female shareholder filed a complaint after allegedly being insulted.

"Nobody would've gone hungry," Walters said, adding that the company also offered potato soup, sandwiches, and cakes.

Manfred Bischoff, chairman of Daimler'south supervisory board, even commented on the incident during his speech to the shareholders.

"Either we necessity more sausages, or we obtain rid of sausages completely," he said.
