SYDNEY — Australia will examine a piece of suspected plane debris found E of Africa on a Mauritian island to define whether it's a portion of lost Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

A hotel owner on the island who saw the debris said it looked love it was from the interior of a plane, with what he thought was a wallpaper "design", which if confirmed, would be the first piece of interior debris from the plane yet to be found.

Australia has led the look for for the plane, which went lost in March two thousand fourteen with two hundred thirty-nine people on board. Transport Minister Darren Chester said the debris, found latest week, was an "item of interest."

"The Malaysian government is working with executive from Mauritius to seek to get custody of the debris and organize for its examination," Chester said in a statement.

He didn't declare from what portion of the lost Boeing seven hundred seventy-seven the debris was suspected to have come.

"Until the debris has been examined by experts, it's not possible to find out its origin," he said.

William Auguste, who owns the Mourouk Ebony Hotel on Rodrigues Island, about three hundred fifty miles E of the main island of Mauritius, said the wreckage was found by guests.

"For sure it looked love portion of an aeroplane — it looks love it'south from the interior portion of it," Auguste said.

He added: "There was wallpaper interior of the plane, you can look this design and portion of it's still there."

Auguste said the wreckage was taken to police.

Latest month, Australia said debris found in Mozambique was "almost certainly from MH370" and in two thousand-fifteenth French authorities said a wing portion found on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion was portion of the plane.

Australia said that more than 95.000 square kilometers of a 120.000 square km target zone had been searched and that the all zone would be covered by June, when the look for is scheduled to end.
