At minimum two people have died and dozens have been injured after a car pile-up on a active hwy in China.

Two trucks, three buses and twenty cars were involved in the accident on a hwy linking Shanghai and Nanjing.

Footage from the scene showed some stranded motorists standing on top of badly smashed cars.

A traffic officer in Changzhou City said the exact no of those damage was still being determined.

Slippery roads as a result of heavy rain was thought to be the cause of the pile-up.

Saturday was the first day of a three-day national holiday marking Tomb-Sweeping Day in the country.
