N Korean boss Kim Jong-Un has supervised the testing of a new anti-aircraft weapon system, according to state media.

The firing exercise comes amid heightened tension on the divided peninsula in the wake of Pyongyang carrying out nuclear test and missile launches in defiance of the international community.

Pyongyang'south official news agency KCNA said the 33-year-old boss had "guided the test of a new-type anti-air guided weapon system" to "estimate its performance".

It added: "Below his observation, AA rockets were fired to accurately hit mock foe aerial targets.

"The test verified that the performance of the new-type AA guided weapon system is perfect in the light of the latest military sci-tech requirements."

Mister Kim is reported by KCNA to have "expressed grand satisfaction over the successful test" and that it represented "another striking demonstration of the the rapidly growing defence capability of the country".

On the sidelines, US President Barack Obama met with his S Korean and Japanese counterparts where they agreed to bring pressure to bear on Pyongyang over its nuclear programme.

N Korea has dismissed the summit as "nonsensical" and an effort to obstruct its "legitimate access to nuclear weapons".

Existing UN sanctions ban N Korea from carrying out any ballistic missile tests.
