A woman in Liberia has died of Ebola just three months after the W African nation was declared free of the virus.

The unidentified 30-year-old victim had become unwell and was taken to a clinic in Paynesville, E of the capital Monrovia.

She was later moved to a hospital in the city and died on Thursday.

It's the first new case in Liberia since Jan when the epidemic was declared over after forty-two days without a new case, and a mo after the latest two Ebola patients left hospital.

Forty-two days represents twice the length of the incubation period - the time between catching Ebola and getting its symptoms.

Liberia, along with Sierra Leone and Guinea, were worst hit in the world'south deadliest Ebola epidemic in which more than 11.300 people lost their lives over two years.

Some 4.800 people died in Liberia.

In March, Sierra Leone declared an finish of active transmission which meant that W Africa was briefly Ebola free.

A few days later, Guinea announced new cases, including seven deaths, and Liberia temporarily closed its border, fearing the outbreak could spread.

It wasn't immediately known whether the death in Liberia was linked to the new cases in Guinea.

The World Health Organisation said one of its teams and local experts were sent to the area close Monrovia where the woman was living and to a clinic that treated her.

They were to "start case investigation and identification of individuals who may have been in contact," a statement said.
