Airbus, Siemens to work together on electrically-powered planes

The two companies will aim to demonstrate the technical feasibility of various hybrid electric propulsion systems by two thousand twenty, they said in a statement on Thursday.

European aerospace grouping Airbus has signed a deal with industrial grouping Siemens to work on hybrid electric propulsion systems with the aim of building tiny planes that could be partly powered by electricity by two thousand thirty.

The two companies will aim to demonstrate the technical feasibility of various hybrid electric propulsion systems by two thousand twenty, they said in a statement on Thursday.

The two have keep together a team of about two hundred people to work on developing electrically powered aircraft and will create "significant contributions" to the project.

"We believe that by 2030 passenger aircraft below one hundred seats could be propelled by hybrid propulsion systems and we're determined to examine this opportunity together with world-class partners love Siemens," Airbus Grouping CEO Tom Enders said.
