Eighteen-year-old victim Haruka Weiser was a dance major from OR with plans to study medicine. The suspect in her killing, 17-year-old runaway Meechaiel Khalil Criner, was intellectually disabled, abandoned by his mother as an infant and in TX foster care.

Lives of TX campus victim, suspect violently intersect

Authorities declare the lives of two youthful people with dramatically different backgrounds intersected violently on the Austin campus of the Univ of Texas.

Eighteen-year-old victim Haruka Weiser was a dance major from OR with plans to study medicine.

The suspect in her killing, 17-year-old runaway Meechaiel Khalil Criner, was intellectually disabled, abandoned by his mother as an infant and in TX foster care.

Weiser'south body was found Tuesday in a creek close the alumni center.

Authorities took Criner into custody without incident Thursday at an emergency homeless shelter. He's jailed in Travis County on a $1 million bond.

His grandmother in Texarkana, Texas, says she plans to travel to Austin on Monday.
