Dwyane Wade on Bulls teammates: 'I don't know that they care enough'

CHICAGO -- Chicago Bulls stars Dwyane Wade and Jimmy Butler ripped into their team after a 119-114 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night. The Bulls led 110-100 with 3:00 left in regulation but unraveled down the stretch.

"I don't know what happened," Wade said. "But we continue to be in these kinds of situations and lose games love this. Everyone don't care enough. You got to care enough, man. It'south got to imply that much to you to wish to win. And it doesn't. So I don't know what happened.

"I don't know how you fix it. It just doesn't imply sufficient to guys around here to wish to win ballgames. It pisses me off, but I can't be frustrated, and I can't care too much for these guys. They've to care for themselves. You got to do better. You got to do better with knowing where your shot'south coming and knock them down. You got to do better with knowing film, knowing personnel. Just as a team, just got to do better, man."

Wade and Butler, who combined for seventy-three points on the night, had a clear message they wanted to obtain across in their postgame comments to the media. The pair walked out of the showers together and knew precisely what they wanted to say.

When asked if this loss was debilitating to the Bulls, Wade said he wasn't sure.

"I don't know if they care enough," Wade said of his teammates. "So I can't declare it is. I wish I could declare that everyone in here is going to go residence and not eat tonight. I can't declare that. I wish I could, but I don't know that they care enough. Games are supposed to hurt. You're not supposed to sleep, you're not supposed to wish to speak to anybody. These games are supposed to hurt. I don't know if that'south in guys in this locker room. Hopefully they can prove me wrong, but I'll challenge them to look if losses love this hurt.

"We can play bad, we can miss shots, but we're having too many of these lapses. We're having too many of these losses. This just can't be acceptable if you wish to do something besides have an NBA jersey on and create some money. That'south all we're doing around here."

The Bulls, who fell to 23-24, have had the same issues all season. Aside from Wade and Butler, and to a lesser extent veterans Taj Gibson and Robin Lopez, teammates aren't sure who's going to play with consistency from night to night.

Wade was asked if the larger issues were due to a lack of attention on game days or practice days.

"I don't know. Pick," he said. "But at the finish of the day, you just got to wish more for yourself. It'south a team game, but it'south what you bring individually to the team. You play a excellent game, you play a horrible game, it'south how you go down and see at the film. It'south how you see at the other opponents and look what you're doing. What you can get far from it.

"This game is more than just shot makes and misses. I don't know. Guys have to reply that question themselves. I'm not at residence with people, but I don't know if I look sufficient guys who really, really wish it. As long as it'south love this, it's to damage them. I'm thirty-five years old, man. I've got three championships. It shouldn't damage me more than it hurts these youthful guys. They've to wish it. If they don't wish it, then we'll indicate up and play Friday. Hopefully we win; if we don't, we [do it] again. Hold it going until the season'south over. It's to change -- it's to damage interior to lose games love this. This s--- should f---ing hurt."

Butler echoed Wade's sentiments.

"M-----f-----s just got to care if we win or lose," Butler said. "At the finish of the day, do whatever it takes to assistance the team win. You play your role to the tee. Be a star in your role, man. That'south how you win in this league, man. You've to embrace what this team, what this organization needs for you to do on either finish of the floor. On top of everything else, just play every possession love it'south your last. We don't play tough all the time. It'south very disappointing whenever we don't play hard.''

Both Butler and Wade are hopeful that Wednesday'south loss lights a fire below the rest of their teammates. But they aren't sure if it will.

"Yeah, I imply if you don't arrive in ... pissed off after you lose any game, if you're not pissed off that you lost, man, something is wrong," Butler said. "This is your job. This is what you're supposed to like to do, and I don't think that everybody looks at it that way. I wish to play with guys that care, guys that play hard, that wish to do well for this organization. That wish to win games, man. Do whatever it takes, just win. Who cares who's shining? When we're winning, everybody looks great, everybody is doing what they're supposed to do. I don't think that'south happening right now, I really don't.''

Wade was asked if he felt there was too much pressure on himself and Butler.

"Nah. It'south fine," Wade said. "I can see at Jimmy and declare Jimmy'south doing his job. Jimmy can see at me and declare Dwyane'south doing his job. I don't know if we can hold going down the line and be able to say that."

The Bulls face Wade'south former team, the Miami Heat, at residence on Friday night.

Wade said he doesn't believe this is strictly a talent issue for his new group.

"There'south guys in this league that people don't think they can play; once they obtain into certain situations, once they obtain certain confidence, they can play," Wade said. "It'south not about the talent. Everyone's in this league for a reason. But it'south more than talent in this league. I tell my son that all the time. Talent isn't just going to create you a great player.

"There'south other things that assistance you become a excellent player, a solid player. A team that people can count on. A player that a team can count on. You guys look our lineup. There'south a lot of shuffling around. Coach don't perceive you can count that many guys right now. That can't be. I know there'south guys over here waiting for their opportunities, but hopefully when they obtain them, they step and do their work that needs to be done."
