And @ShelbyMiller19 heads out to LF. Tomás moves from LF to RF. Drury moves from RF to 2B, and Segura moves from 2B to SS. Got all that?

Yep, Shelby Miller in left field. It'south not the first time a pitcher has played the outfield -- Roy Oswalt did it for the Phillies years ago -- but it's certainly rare. It'south a latest resort for obvious reasons.

Miller was indeed certified in left field in that thirteenth inning. Twice, in fact. First, Sean Rodriguez ripped a run-scoring double over his head. Here'south the play:

That was a beautiful spotless play by Miller. He handed the carom well and fired the ball back in quickly -- fast sufficient there was nearly a play at second base. Not horrible for a guy playing way out of position.

Miller had to create another play in the inning as well, though it was distant more routine. Jonathon Niese looped a single to left field that Miller scooped and threw back in. As routine as it gets.

And if that wasn't enough, Miller had to bat in the bottom of the thirteenth inning. He struck out to finish the game while representing the tying run. Baseball: it's weird.
