The Chiefs and veteran safety Jimmy Wilson have agreed to terms on a one-year deal, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Friday night.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Chiefs hadn't announced the contract.

Wilson spent his first four seasons with the Miami Dolphins, starting twenty-one games, before spending latest season with AFC West-rival San Diego. The former MT standout started seven of thirteen games he played and made twenty-one tackles and an interception, showing the kind of versatility the Chiefs cost in their safeties.

The Chiefs also agreed to terms with former Giants safety Stevie Johnson, his agent Blake Baratz said on Twitter. Johnson had eight interceptions in two thousand-twelfth, but his career has been slowed by injuries.

The Chiefs had been looking for veteran assistance after Tyvon Department signed with the AZ Cardinals in free agency and Husain Abdullah announced his retirement earlier in the week.

KS City has already used the franchise tag on All-Pro safety Eric Berry, and common manager John Dorsey said this week he's optimistic a long-term deal can be reached. Ron Parker and Daniel Sorenson stay on the roster from latest season, while Jamell Fleming is transitioning from cornerback to safety.

In other news Friday, the Chiefs announced a series of minor moves within their coaching staff.

Britt Reid was promoted to defensive line coach to replace Tommy Brasher, who'll presently work on special projects. Al Harris has been promoted to secondary coach in charge of cornerbacks, and helper quarterbacks coach Corey Matthaei and helper linebackers coach Label DeLeone will have expanded roles.

The Chiefs also hired Joe Bleymaier as their offensive quality control coach, Taylor Embree as a defensive helper and Mike Smith as an helper defensive line coach, while Devin Woodhouse and Ryan Reynolds were added to the strength and conditioning staff.
