With Hillary Clinton in California, Bernie Sanders goes up on TV

With Hillary Clinton , rival Bernie Sanders on Friday will air his first TV ad in the state.

The ad, which touts the VT senator’s success raising millions of dollars from tiny donors, appears to represent a tiny buy – less likely to reach mass TV audiences than to proposal a counter-point to Clinton’s visit.

In the ad, Sanders supporters ask for $27 – the average quantity his donors give, according to the campaign – to advance causes including free college tuition, universal healthcare and getting “big money out of politics.”

“If you can’t afford to attend tonight’s event with Secretary Clinton, we invite you to connect Bernie’s fundraiser for the low price of turning on your television,” Jeff Weaver, Sanders’ campaign manager, said in a prepared statement.

Clinton, the Democratic presidential frontrunner, is scheduled to show up with George Clooney at fundraisers in the Bay Area on Friday and in LA on Saturday.

She's also expected to speak at a public event in Los Angeles.

The Sanders campaign said its ad will running on KGO-TV in San Francisco on Friday and on a CBS affiliate in LA the following day.
