Pret confirms a focus on growing food sales for vegetarians following a year of double-digit growth.

Pret A Manger has reported another year of record sales and rising profits, crediting growth in vegetarian options.

The self-styled biological coffee and natural food chain said it was to open a "vegetarian-only" pop-up in London in June after sales of non-meat products recorded double-digit growth in 2015.

Avocado, it said, was the fastest-growing ingredient over the year - with five million sold.

Pret also pointed to growing demand for breakfast, with fifty-eight percent of sales presently exterior of lunchtime.

The company, owned by Bridgepoint Capital, said total sales rose almost fourteen percent to £676.2m while operating profits stood at £84.3m - a rise of 14.5%.

It's expanded to three hundred ninety-nine stores worldwide - more than three hundred of them in the UK - with the US was its fastest growing market in 2015.

Like-for-like sales there grew 13.8%.

Chief executive, Clive Schlee, said: "Latest year thousands of customers told us they were trying to eat less meat.

"This year we've challenged ourselves to expand our vegetarian options in all shops, as well as opening a veggie-only pop-up shop to memorise more from our customers.

"We'll of course still focus on the essentials: engagement of our wonderful team members, the freshness and quality of our ingredients, and securing top class locations around the world. This gives us confidence for the year ahead."
