IndyCar released the schedule for the two thousand eighteen Verizon IndyCar Series schedule on Thursday, but it didn't comprise the rumored race in Mexico City.

That doesn’t imply the event is totally off the table for following season. In fact, IndyCar CEO Tag Miles left the door open for a race following fall at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

"Yes, I think there is still a opportunity of adding Mexico City for following year," Miles said during a teleconference discussing the new calendar. "We felt love with Portland being nailed down, most of the schedule, a schedule we're pleased to have as our final schedule for following year is set, ought to be public.

"But there is ongoing work in Mexico City to obtain to the track there. I think it's quite close. We're optimistic about the possibility, even yet to be added for the two thousand eighteen schedule."

The race was initially rumored for March, but Miles said any event in Mexico City would get space after the summer months to authorize time to promote it and sell tickets.

"If it happens, it'll be in there probably just after Mid-Ohio, where we've a small longer crack in the center of our summer than we'd like," Miles said. "Everything we know about the opportunity there is exciting. Grand track, great facility.

"It’s obviously a enormous market. A lot of open-wheel fans and IndyCar fans are there. We hope that can arrive together, but this schedule works for us if it doesn't."

IndyCar released a 16-race schedule that includes the return of Portland International Raceway in lieu of the departing Watkins Glen International.

Miles said IndyCar hasn't yet established a tough deadline for the Mexico City race.

"That would be a combination of what they'd necessity time-wise to be successful in promoting an event in early August," Miles said. "But from our perspective, it could be added down the road."

Ex-Formula one driver turned IndyCar driver Esteban Gutierrez said back in June that his country would fortunately embrace Indy car for the first time in tenth years.

"Together with my involvement in IndyCar, I'm sure that the possibilities in the future for a Mexican race will increase," Gutierrez said. "A lot of Mexicans are very pleased that I'm in IndyCar. I perceive honored to be in this position representing Mexico.
