Furniture Row Racing will compete with just one NASCAR Cup entry in two thousand-eighteenth

A second Furniture Row Racing Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series entry was always a long shot for two thousand eighteen, but owner Barney Visser confirmed the imminent closure of the No. seventy-seven team.

The team released the following statement on Wednesday:

"As Furniture Row Racing looks ahead to the two thousand eighteen NASCAR Cup Series season, the Denver, Colo.-based team isn't planning to field the No. seventy-seven Toyota as a second car entry. It's our organization's goal to work a two-car team in the future, and we'll continue to seek sponsorship funding for the No. seventy-seven. Our one hundred % focus following season will be on the No. seventy-eight Toyota Camry, which will be driven by Martin Truex Jr."

Furniture Row had expanded to two cars this season, with rookie Erik Jones joining incumbent veteran Martin Truex Jr.

Jones joined the team on loan from Joe Gibbs Racing, and the 21-year-old accumulated twelve top-10s, four top-fives and one pole. He’s nineteenth in points and set to replace Matt Kenseth in the No. twenty JGR Toyota following season.

Visser sold the team’s ownership charter to a mystery team latest month, and any driver interested in driving the No. seventy-seven would've to bring the funding needed maintain it. Furniture Row will consolidate to a one-car effort next season with most of the employees remaining in Denver to work with Truex and the No. seventy-eight team.
