Rebellion Racing disqualified, stripped of overall podium at twenty-fourth Hours of Le Mans

Nelson Piquet Jr., David Hansson and Mathias Beche were stripped of their twenty-four Hours of Le Mans podium due to video proof that their Rebellion Racing team altered the body to the No. thirteen Oreca seven Gibson to more easily restart the engine following pit stops this weekend.

Specifically, this violated the provision that teams mustn't "modify a homologated portion and utilize it during the race." The car had suffered problems with the portion earlier in the race, but the alteration wasn't due to crash damage or unintended consequence.

The trio had driven their car to third overall and second in the LMP2 division, finishing two laps behind Ho-Pin Tung, Thomas Laurent and Oliver Jarvis in the Jackie Chan DC Racing Oreca seven Gibson. They were three laps behind the overall winning Porsche factory LMP1 driven by Timo Bernhard, Earl Bamber and Brendon Hartley.

The disqualification promotes the second Jackie Chan DC car to third with drivers David Cheng, Tristan Gommendy and Alex Brundle, making a double podium for the Chinese-backed and British-operated team.
