Mika Hakkinen started racing in kart events at the age of five, winning his first race in one thousand nine hundred seventy-fifth when he was eight years old. Presently one of his elderly karts, a one thousand nine hundred eighty-two Finnkart, is going up for auction at Bonhams&#thirty-nine; Monaco sale.

Bonhams to offer one thousand nine hundred eighty-two Finnkart raced by F1 champ in his youth

Many Formula One champions started their racing careers in karting, and the Flying Finn was number exception. Mika Hakkinen started racing in kart events at the age of five, winning his first race in one thousand nine hundred seventy-fifth when he was eight years old.

Presently one of his elderly karts, a one thousand nine hundred eighty-two Finnkart, is going up for auction at Bonhams&#thirty-nine; Monaco sale.

Hakkinen used this specific kart in the Finnish Karting Championship and the Ronnie Peterson Memorial Championship in one thousand nine hundred eighty-second. He finished second in the Finnish Karting Championship and took first space in the Ronnie Peterson race. Hakkinen moved up to Formula Ford in one thousand nine hundred eighty-seventh, then worked his way through Formula three, eventually landing a spot with Lotus.

The kart has been kept since by Finnkart&#thirty-nine;s proprietor Petri Pirkola, who supplied it to Hakkinen for the one thousand nine hundred eighty-two race. And it hasn&#thirty-nine;t been used since 1983.

In Jan of latest year, Ayrton Senna's DAP kart from the one thousand nine hundred eighty-one World Championship brought $65.527 at Bonhams' Paris sale, and in May this very same Mika Hakkinen kart sold for $10.028 at Bonhams' Spa Classic sale, making this auction a fast flip for the consignor. Another Hakkinen-raced kart from one thousand nine hundred eighty-six brought just about the same amount, changing hands for $10.484 at the Spa sale.
