Tesla Model three orders hit 325.000; France offers nuclear plant for factory

Elon Musk touts $14 billion in preorders for (hopefully forthcoming) EV sedan

The order tally for the Tesla Model three has reached 325.000, CEO Elon Musk announced today, a week after ordering opened for the new EV sedan. The company head was initially taken aback by the pace of orders.

"Definitely going to necessity to rethink production planning..." Musk tweeted latest week during the first full day of orders.

Over the weekend, the CEO also promised "an additional gift for those who stood in some crazy long lines" during an impromptu question-and-answer session on Twitter.

The order count stood at 276.000 on Saturday, April two, after three days of around-the-clock ordering online and at Tesla store locations. Tesla picked up nearly 50.000 more deposits for the new sedan in the latest four days, once again surpassing some analysts&#thirty-nine; expectations that the pace of orders would stall at 300.000 after the initial rush.

"Over 325K cars or ~$14B in preorders in first week. Only five percent ordered max of two, suggesting low levels of speculation," Musk tweeted one week after preordering started, with customers spending $1.000 to obtain a space in line.

Presently Tesla faces the distant more daunting task of actually fulfilling those orders. While the company's factory in Fremont, California, will be the main plant once production starts in late two thousand seventeen, the French government wants Tesla to set up a factory in France, Reuters reports.

French Energy Minister Segolene Royal has proposed that Musk create an electric-car factory at the location of the Fessenheim Nuclear Power Plant -- due to near following year -- in northeast France.

"I said to him: 'I have a space for you, Fessenheim'. He didn't declare no," Royal told reporters from Reuters.

Musk has previously mentioned the Alsace region, where the plant is located, as a spot where it'd create sense for the company to open a European factory. The task of fulfilling $14 billion worth of orders may not be answered by the Fremont facility alone, particularly given the brisk pace with which European customers have been buying Tesla vehicles. For a brief period of time latest year the Model south was Norway's best-selling car.
